On Friday June 10th, Cathelijne Stoof, PhD candidate for the DESIRE project with Wageningen University, successfully defended her thesis called: "Fire effects on soil and hydrology" in the Wageningen Univeristy Aula.

During her 4-year research, Cathelijne investigated the influence of forest fires on soil properties. The heat of forest fires can make the soil water repellent and enhance risk of erosion and flooding.

Cathelijne is one of the first PhD students finishing her research within the DESIRE project and getting the degree of Dr.
