The UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification) issues an Award for innovation and Excellence in sustainable land  management,  particularly  collaborative  efforts  that promote soil health. Applications for the Award are welcomed on the UNCCD Land for Life Award website, until February 29th 2012.

Good news about fighting desertification is that everyone can make a difference, from ordinary individuals and farmers to political leaders, businesses, scientists and media. Through sustainable land management, dry and degraded land can become an asset. There are many ways to support sustainable land management through policy, innovation, changing agricultural practices and education and awareness raising.

Three winners will be selected by an expert jury which will grant awards from a total prize fund of up to USD 100,000. Nominations are welcome from individuals, businesses, research and academic institutions, local governments, journalists and civil society organizations. The deadline for applications is 29 February 2012.
