DESIRE project reviewed in Brussels

The review in action - from left to right: Rudi Hessel, Victor Jetten, Mike Kirkby and the Review Panel members.On June 16th 2011, the DESIRE project has been reviewed by a panel of two external experts at European Union FP6 office in Brussels, Belgium.

 

In the morning session, project coordinator Coen Ritsema, colleagues Rudi Hessel, Erik van den Elsen, and Working Block leaders Godert van Lynden, Costas Kosmas,  Victor Jetten, Mike Kirkby, Jane Brandt, Patrice Burger and Karen Witsenburg (WB1..WB6,  CARI and Both ENDS resp.) gave presentations about various Fourth-year aspects of the project. In the afternoon, the two-headed panel posed questions to the DESIRE representatives.

Although the project has been very succesfull until now, and has also been proposed as an example project by the EU itself, there were critical questions and remarks. A review report is expected from the panel later.

Cathelijne Stoof wins Award for 'most talented PhD candidate'

ImageOn the occasion of the two-yearly awarding of the Storm-van der Chijs Stipends on 8 March, three most talented PhD candidates from Wageningen University, Cathelijne Stoof, Marije Oostindjer and Alessandra Galič received a stipend and certificate.

Cathelijne Stoof is Wageningen University PhD student, and is performing research on the effect of forest fires on desertification, soil properties and flooding risk in Portugal.

Els Faassen and Purabi Bose were awarded with a honourable distinction. The stipends underline the quality of their work and are meant for femal PhD candidates as encouragement to pursue in their academic careers, The stipends – one is sponsored by the Wageningen UR Executive Board – give each 1,500 euro to be used for further international profiling by a visit to an academic conference or institute abroad.

DESIRE film available in 10 Languages

Image The DESIRE promo film that was produced for the UNCCD CRIC9 (Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention) meeting in Bonn this spring, has been subtitled into 10 different languages.

The different subtitles available are: English, French, Italian, Greek, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Setswana (Botswana) and Russian. The realisation of these translations makes spreading of the 'DESIRE message' possible througout large areas of the world.

The video's are available from the 'TV & Internet' -page of the DESIRE website, or from the Vimeo DESIRE channel directly.

The videos may be reproduced and shown by the DESIRE partners freely. The video's may also be used by third parties as long as they comply with the DESIRE copyright and disclaimer agreement.
