Institute full name:

Institut de Recherche pour le Développement

Institute acronym:

IRD

Institute profile:

Originally founded in 1944, the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD, before know as ORSTOM) is a French public science and technology research institute, under the joint authority of the French ministries in charge of research and development cooperation. Working throughout the tropics, the IRD has three main missions: research, training and consultancy. It conducts scientific programs contributing to the sustainable development of the countries of the South, with an emphasis on the relationship between man and the environment.
The LTHE (Laboratory of Environmental Hydrology and the study of the Transfer processes) is a joint research team of CNRS (Cent. Nat. Rech. Scient.), INPG (Inst. Nat. Polytech. Grenoble), UJF (Univ. J. Fourrier) and IRD based in Grenoble, France. LTHE is working all over the the world on hydrological processes, water dynamics and solutes transfer from local to catchment scale.

IRD-LTHE is the coordinator of the DESIRE project in Mexico and partner with INIA in Chile. The main team is based all year long in Morelia, Mexico.
