Participatory monitoring of land management measures PDF Print E-mail
Written by Simone Verzandvoort

Image One of the aims of the DESIRE project is to provide a method for collaborative selection of sustainable land management options to combat desertification. This MSc research of Patricia Santos (Wageningen University) focused on the process and outcome of initiating participatory monitoring of land management options in the DESIRE study sites in Portugal, where recurrent forest fires are the desertification problem, and in Morocco, in agricultural land suffering from aridity. Individual and collective perceptions of stakeholders appeared to show significant relationships to initial conditions of stakeholders in case they were landowners and/or had experience with meetings by being associated to civic organizations. The research was supervised by Wageningen University (The Netherlands), the University of Aveiro, the Escola Superior Agriaria de Coimbra (Portugal) and Université Mohammed V (Morocco).
