The World Bank global Environment Facility has announced to support the development of a wall of trees stretching over 7000 kilometres across 11 African countries, from SÚnegal to Djibouti (the 'Great Green Wall'). It has three goals: natural resource conservation, development and management, strengthening infrastructure and improving the living conditions of the resident communities.

DESIRE's partner Both ENDS has reacted in a press release. The Great Green Wall initiative is in line with DESIRE's view to build on ongoing efforts from local communities to counter desertification.
