Registration

A registration page is implemented on the Desire website. Login to the website, and the link to the registration page will be available in the user menu of the website. Registering for multiple colleagues from the same organisation or institute is now possible. You officially have to register through the DESIRE registration page (please login to the website and click the Events Registration button in the main menu).

You have already been asked to indicate whether you intended to come or not. This was only to make reservations for a sufficient number of rooms, so you do all need to register officially through the Desire website

Hotels

There are two hotel options (BB =  Bed and Breakfast, HB = Half Board. Half Board is not recommended since lunches are catered at the meeting and there are a number of joint dinners).

  • The single room rate is 700 MAD/night in BB and 900 MAD in Half Board (~ 62 Euro resp. ~80 Euro).

When you register for the meeting you are asked to make reservations for one of these 2 hotels. As the organizer had to pay an advance of 30% of the invoice, you will be requested to pay 70% directly to the hotel and 30% in cash to the Moroccan Desire team and you’ll receive a full invoice from the hotel reception. Both hotels do accept common credit cards.

Field trip

During the field trip (Wednesday October 21th), we will visit the Mamora/Sehoul study site, 50km far from Rabat. During this visit, will be presented the results of the monitoring, made by the Moroccan team and the experiences in term of water and soil conservation.

Weather

The month of October is a transition month in Morocco and the weather can change very rapidly. The average temperature and precipitation are just indications, because it can be a very dry and sunny month some years or a rainy one some other years. So you should be prepared for the 2 options.

Travel Information

Your arrival to Morocco could be both, to Rabat airport, or to Casablanca (120 km between this airport and the city of Rabat.

To arrive to Rabat you must fly through Paris (4 or 5 flights Paris – Rabat / a day). From The Rabat Airport to city center, use the white Mercedes, Grand Taxi.

Otherwise, you’ll arrive to Casablanca Mohammed V airport. Then to reach Rabat, you should take a train. The railway station is located in the airport in the underground. The train takes you to Rabat (2 hours travel). There is often a stop with change of the train at the Casablanca – Aïn Sbaa station, ½ hour after departure from the airport. In Rabat, you should get off at the 1rst stop which is the Agdal station.

From the station to the hotel, use the blue Petit Taxi. This inexpensive way to get around town usually won't exceed 25 MAD.

Money

The official currency of Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham, denoted as MAD or DH. A Moroccan Dirham comprises 100 centimes. Notes are available in bills of DH 200, 100, 50, and 20. Coins are of DH 10, 5, 2 and 1. 1 US $ equals to 8 MAD ; 1 Euro is equal to 11 MAD.

All currency purchased during a visit to Morocco must be converted back before departing the country. Most of the main foreign currencies may be exchanged at a Bureau de Change in the airport upon arrival, at a bank or in most hotels. Most hotels will exchange at the same rate as the banks, and without charging commission. Cash withdrawals can be made at ATMs, well distributed in the city.

Registration Fee

For participation to the DESIRE meeting, a fee of 230 euros should be paid in cash at the registration desk in Euros, Dollars or in Dirham’s. This fee covers all lunches, some dinners, the excursion and facility costs. A receipt (that you can use for claiming these costs) will be issued upon paying.

Note that the fee does NOT include the 30% of the hotel invoice that you also need to pay at the registration desk (calculate this amount yourself depending on the number of nights and hotel choice).

Visa

Most of the European and North African citizens do not require a visa to come to Morocco. But we recommend that you ask the travel agency and in case the visa is required, you contact the Moroccan Embassy in your country, as soon as possible. In this case, we can provide you with a personal invitation letter. As applying for a visa might take a while, please take the necessary steps on time.
